This is a very unusual tribal piece Its previous owner, a collector of tribal art, Identified this for me as from the Tif tribe. He believed it to be early to mid 20th Century. The body, legs and tail are all wrapped with strips of leather. I believe it is totally leather but I am not certain. It does have weight. These strips have knots in them for decorative effect. It measures 7 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide and is almost 4 inches high. Most tribal art from Africa comes from West Africa. However this is from Cameroon, which is East Africa.
