Luba-Hemba Ceremonial Axe .A strong example of the scarce figural type, rare, this particular one with wonderful head carving, an early one from the 19th century. The old and latest wrappings, here in beaten silver, ..as normal, are added, on special occasions over time. Great deep rich patina, the ridge bordered blade also exceptional, these Congo status implements are considered of ruler or 'royal' rank.
